The volume of your lungs

Another word for lung volume is respiratory volume which determines the volume of air at a given time during the breathing cycle. The capacity of the average adult lung is 6 liters of air. This volume is not the same for everyone and it mostly depends on parameters like age, gender, ethnicity etc.

Lung Capacities

Inspiratory Capacity - is the amount of hair that can be inhaled following a resting state. It is the sum of the Reserve Volume and Tidal Volume.

Total Capacity - It is all the volume of air in lungs after maximum inspiration. It is calculated by adding the four lung volumes. The average value is about 6 liters.

Vital Capacity - is the amount of exhaled air after maximal inhalation. Its value is about 4800 mililiters.

It's important to measure the long volume for a correct determination of physiological diagnosis, but it doesn't seem to have a significant role in the disease's severity. Measures can be done using Spirometry.
