Volume is a measure of how much space an object takes. It is usually quantified numerically using the cubic metre. To have a better visualization of what the volume is, think of a container. Its volume is the capacity of that container. Determining the volume of a solid object is easy as it can be achieved by fluid displacement. In the International System of Units, the standard unit of volume is the cubic meter. The metric system also includes the litre as a unit of volume.

Units of Volume

1 cubic metre = 1000 litres.

1 millilitre = 0.001 litres = 1 cubic centimetre.

1 million litres = 1000 cubic metres = 1 megalitre.

Cube V = a3

Cuboid V = abc

Prism V = Bh

Pyramid V = ⅓(Bh)

Sphere V = 4/3(πr3)

Cone V = ⅓(hπr3)
